The Weather

There was no indian summer at the first day of the Knockalla  hillclimbswith torrential rain for most of the day. The second day was sunshine and showers

The rain just bucketed down as Donegal Motor Motor set up the venue at Knockalla mountain near Portsalon on Saturday. Limerick Motor Club members provided nearly 10% of the field. Denis Hogan and Paul O’Connell provided an interesting battle all day with Paul double driving Denis’s BMS M3. Denis started a second quicker than Paul in the very wet first run. Paul had turned the tables on the still wet second run, he now had the one second advantage. Paul maintained the one second advantage on the drying third and fourth runs, the times had improved by three seconds even though there was still a river of water flowing down the course from the finish line to the last hairpin. The fifth run, Denis tried hard but the battle was won by Paul with a time of 53.07 to Denis’s time of 53.67

Senan O’Connor had a strange defeat in the informal “Cento Challlenge” he was beaten by a car that had hit the ditch and had its radiator ripped out. The car was driven up the hill with no coolant to set the quickest time for a Cento.

Trish Daly in her Mini took third in class 1. Eanna Carroll was fourth in class 3B

The sun was shining for Donegal Motor Club on Sunday morning, the five club members were eager for a good days motorsport.

The batlle between Denis and Paul started again. When asked  after the third runPaul said ” he has it today, he has a second on me”  On the fourth run Denis had a mistake but Paul could only improve to 0.52s behind Denis. Eanna Carroll took third in class 3B with Denis fourth and Paul sixth. A shower arrived for the fifth run so no improvements after that.

Trish Daly took third again in class 1 with Senan O’Connor fifth
