TrophyJohn and Paul 5th Overall

The Limerick crew of John Byrnes and Paul Murphy took their Croom Precision Medical sponsored Honda Civic across the water to compete in this year’s Pirelli International. The event has been renamed The Pirellii Richard Burns Foundation Rally in tribute to Richard Burns, the foundation was set up in his memory to research into astrocytoma.

John writes about his weekend

“We’re doing the BRC Challenge this year driving the a Group N Honda Civic. The challenge event was running on the Saturday with six stages and one service in the Kilder forest.

The stages were very tricky. Very fast and narrow with blind corners over crests being a big feature.

My harness opened during the first stage and we dropped some time re securing it. We caught a car on the 2nd and 4th stages which delayed us a little. On the 5th stage we broke the exaust on a bad rut out of a chicane which caused our engine to loose power.

At the finish we took 5th overall and 1st in class only 4 seconds off 4th place.

The Event Organisers were very friendly and welcoming to over sea competitors and the competition over there is fierce.”
