Not Quite Winners
Club members took three second places at the first day of the Imokilly Motor Club hillclimb at the Sweep Dungarvan. Peter Cummins in his Darrian T90 was only 0.28s behind the winner, if there had been more runs Peter may have found the difference. The event was blighted by mechanical woes on the competing cars, especially after one car laid a trail of oil over nearly half the course. At the start of the day John Kennedy set himself a target of finishing in the “teens” overall, after the two runs John had taken his Dax Rush to 18th overall and second in class, John was quite pleased to have achieved his target. Gerard O’Connor was not having a good day with the second chicane on the hill hitting it in practice and having his first timed run disqualified for moving the cone. Gerard’s second run was on the cement covered oil that had been laid down all the way from the second chicane to the finish so Gerard drove with a little caution to collect championship points and second in class.
We have winner
After the three second places on Saturday at the Imokilly hillclimb, it was up to just John Kennedy and Gerard O’Connor to uphold club honours. John had an extra competitor in his class and slipped back to third in class. Gerard on the other hand was doing good deeds and winning his class. The good deed was Gerard gave a double drive to the driver of the quicker car in his class after a drive shaft broke on Saturday.
The next hillclimb is Carlow Car Club’s event 2/3 July 2016 followed by Limerick Motor club’s own Effin Sprint 30/31 July
